Rail Corridor Cited in
Major Economic Announcement For Galway
Press Release 28th
November 2006
The West on Track Community Campaign has welcomed the
announcement by CISCO, one of the worlds leading companies,
that it is to locate a new euro40 million Research and
Development centre in Galway, employing 200 people, and that
the imminent development of the Western Rail Corridor
(Limerick-Galway-Sligo) was among the key factors in its
decision.
A spokesman for West on Track said that the provision of
such a prestige development was a major boost for the region
and should be viewed as an early indication of the economic
benefits that would accrue to the region through the speedy
development of the WRC.
Announcing its decision, the leading networking company,
which employs 51,000 people globally, told the Connacht
Tribune that it was "aware of the progress being made in the
Western Rail Corridor".
Almost 12,000 of the global CISCO workforce are engineers
who are at the cutting edge of developing products and
technology worth $4.1 billion annually.
