west
Galway Advertiser - 6th
January 2005
Myles McHugh has been appointed service planning manager
for the southern and western unit of Iarnród
Éireann.
The former business development manager at Iarnród
Éireann Galway is one of three service planning
managers appointed by Iarnród Éireann to each
of its general management units in the passenger business.
The other service planning manager appointments were Michael
Power to the northern and eastern unit, and Joe Beardmore
for DART.
According to the rail company these roles will reflect
the customer need by specifying service levels and planning
developments in all aspects of customer service within their
respective general management unit. Mr McHugh will be
responsible for specifying service levels on the major
routes from Heuston Station to Galway, Westport/ Ballina and
Cork, and Limerick, Tralee, Limerick.
Mr. McHugh's new role coincides with exciting plans for
the future of the rail service in Ireland. Iarnród
Éireann is set to deliver a transformation of the
InterCity service by placing a record order for 120 new
InterCity carriages in the coming weeks which will begin
entering service in 2007.
The introduction of these new modern carriages will see
frequency improvements occur on all routes and will allow
for plans for an expanded service on the Galway and Mayo
routes with hourly services on the Galway route in peak
hours and two hourly in the off peak.
The Dublin to Westport route will benefit from additional
shuttle services from Athlone to Westport, connecting with
Galway services.

officer and has served in many positions in CIÉ and
Iarnród Éireann. Previously he was freight
sales executive for the west and has been business
development manager for the Galway district for the past
eight years.
A native of Galway city, he was educated at St Joseph's
College (The Bish) in Galway and NUI, Galway where he
qualified with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He is a fellow
